Designing the Blueprint for a Mental Health Stepped Model of Care

Primary Health Networks were created by the Australian Government to redefine the way that primary health care is delivered. This was done with the intent of delivering better health outcomes, while reducing the increasing costs on the health system. A key priority for PHNs is the redesign of regional mental health service systems through the implementation of a stepped model of care.

Murray PHN engaged Impact Co. to synthesise the thinking of the organisation on mental health reform, and deliver a blueprint for the implementation of a regional stepped model of mental health care.

Approach & Outcomes:

Impact Co. facilitated a full-day workshop to synthesise the future strategic direction of the regional mental health system with key members of Murray PHN’s mental health team.

Using the workshop output, Impact Co. prepared a report that set out the key design elements of the mental health services that the PHN would deliver under a stepped model of care, including:

  • Service principles;
  • Service model; and
  • Funding model

Key activities:

  • Market research
  • Workshop facilitation
  • Service model design
